When paying for products online, you almost always need to pay with a credit card. Until now.
Wal-Mart announced a new program today, called "Pay with Cash," that allows online shoppers to sift through a broad selection of products, and after deciding what to buy, pay with cash. Of course, there's no cash terminal sitting in the average person's computer, so in order to complete the transaction, customers will need to head down to their local Wal-Mart store or Neighborhood Markets.
According to Wal-Mart, users will be able to fully check out online, and will be given an e-mailed receipt. They have to head down to a store and pay with cash within 48 hours of the purchase, or the reserved product will no longer be available. The products can then be shipped to a store or to a person's home.
"Many of our customers shop paycheck to paycheck and are looking for more ways to purchase items online but don't have the means to a credit, debit or prepaid card," Joel Anderson, president and CEO of Walmart.com, said today in a statement. "Our new 'Pay with Cash' offering is designed just for them. It makes it easier for our customers to shop the way they want, where they have access to a broader product selection at Walmart.com coupled with the convenience of payment and shipping as they want."
According to Wal-Mart, "hundreds of thousands" of products are currently available for customers to buy with cash. Cash payments can be made in all U.S. Wal-Mart stores or Neighborhood Markets.
