Computer maker Hewlett-Packard (HP) showed off a barrage of new laptops Wednesday morning, among them the new HP Envy Spectre XT -- an ultra mobile premium ultrabook.
Google+ users are linking to news articles about HP’s new thin, light and ultra portable laptop (aka “ultrabook”) and commenting that it’s an “ultra ultrabook.” The HP Envy Spectre XT boasts an all-metal design, Beats Audio, a HD webcam, a 13.3” HD display with slim bezel, 128GB of solid state storage, up to eight hours of battery life, a 14.5mm profile and a price tag of $999.99.
Dell’s experimental Linux ultrabook project “Sputnik” is also featuring in Google+posts.
Microsoft Research is investigating a new gesture recognition system -- akin to the company’s existing Kinect hardware -- that is able to function without a camera. SoundWave uses the Doppler Effect (a change in frequency of a wave) to sense gestures in real time using a speaker and a microphone. Plussers are linking to a video of the technology in its prototype stage.
Plussers are reacting to the news that the US state of North Carolina has passed “Amendment One,” effectively banning gay marriage within the state.
“Looking back NC will be viewed as being on the side of hate, fear and bigotry,” say Google+ users, “Everyone in the #LGBT group that lives in #northcarolina should move. Take your tax dollars to a state that accepts you for who you are.”
Late night TV host Conan O’Brien hosted a Google+ Hangout and asked G+’ers to send in their questions with the “#AskConan” hashtag.
The James Beard Awards, aka the “Oscars of food,” have honored the best in food and drink. Top chefs including Daniel Humm from Eleven Madison Park, Momofuku’s Christina Tosi and Matt Molina of Mozza were among this year’s winners.
