Some of the customers and their partners were caught unaware as Tally Solution enforced a revalidation of Tally licenses in the last week of February. Despite messages sent to all customers and authorized channels of Tally, there was a panic among authorized Tally users, as they could not login to their Tally software.
Some customers admitted that despite receiving messages, they did not follow it, while others claimed that they could not login because there was unprecedented traffic to Tally servers.
“We could not login to our genuine Tally software on March 1, 2012. We received a message from Tally stating that they fear spurious activities and we need to validate the license,” said Sampath Iyengar, CEO, Sam7 Computers and Networks, Mumbai.
Apparently Tally has been seeing spurious activities with Tally Licensing servers seeing more users authenticating than the number of known paid users.
“With the financial year-end close by, we are at the peak of Pratham, our partner program named Mathematics for Happiness. Incidentally, it is also the time when the hackers and pirates are most active to exploit a Tally license. Our monitoring shows that there is a sudden surge in spurious activities related to licensing. Therefore, we had implemented an immediate change in our validation,” said Bharat Goenka, CMD, Tally Solutions in a written statement.
Tally recommends two steps to genuine users of the software. Change the system date to one day ahead and reactivate the license (F12-Licensing->Reactivate License). Then continue working with this date and license for the entire day. The date can be restored back to normal the next day.
Other option is to download the latest release Tally.ERP 9 Release 3.31 from the Tally Website and reactivate the license.
Tally officials insisted that the process is indeed very simple. Goenka said that while around seven lakh genuine Tally users are there in the country, the number of pirated users are estimated to be five times the figure. "We request our genuine customers to cooperate
