Sony unveils PlayMemories Online cloud storage service, PlayMemories Studio

Sony has launched a new cloud storage service, also accessible via its PS3 console, called PlayMemories Online. It will allow owners of certain Sony products, such as PS3 consoles, to upload up to 5GB of images and videos. Once uploaded, the content will be accessible and editable via the PS3, as well as smartphones, tablets, and the PlayStation Vita.

Apart from uploading to the PlayMemories Onlinecloud storage service via PC and phone, PS3 owners will be able to plug their cameras, camcorders and USB drives directly to the PS3. They can then view HD videos and images, and even do some editing – part of the PlayMemories Studio, which will be available as a 30-day free trial version, or roughly $15 to buy. PlayStation Plus subscribers will get free lifetime access however.
PlayMemories Studio has quick edit features such as picture effect presets, as well as video-editing features, with captions, sound effects, voice manipulation, and tagging. All the data is available to see in an Xperia-like timescape view, with location filters.
PlayMemories Online and PlayMemories Studio are services that will be available across other products of the Sony ecosystem - buyers of latest Sony digital cameras or camcorders for now will also get access to the service for free, via a coupon. Sony television, tablet, and smartphone owners will also be able to enjoy the service in the future.
 future.
