MICROSOFT AND NOKIA HAD A CASUAL CHAT ABOUT MAYBE BUYING RIM....

Amazon's not the only company that flirted with the idea of buying RIM.

Microsoft and Nokia also talked about a joint bid, according to the Wall Street Journal.

But it sounds like the talks were just that -- talk. No bid was made, and the report admits it's "unclear how extensively RIM has been involved in any takeover discussions with Microsoft and Nokia."

It's hard to imagine why Microsoft and Nokia would want to saddle themselves with a dying company with completely incompatible software and outdated hardware.
