Asus has launched the Asus DSL-N55U Gigabit ADSL modem and router in India, designed to deliver dual-band 600Mbps bandwidth, or 300Mbps per band. It has been priced at Rs. 9,500 (excluding taxes), and will ship with 3 years warranty.
The Asus DSL-N55U router uses a tri-antenna dual-CPU design which supposedly offers the complete benefit of ADSL modem and router features, all in one streamlined and easy to use device. It supports simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz transmission at up to 600Mbps, which Asus says makes it an ideal choice for power users, gamers, and consumers who stream HD media regularly.
Equipped with two discrete CPUs, the Asus DSL-N55U router carries out both modem and router duties in wired and wireless modes, thus saving users the space, energy requirements, and cost of maintaining a separate ADSL modem and router.
The Asus DSL-N55U router supports up to 300,000 concurrent data sessions, similar to other high end network products from the company. With such figures, Asus claims it outperforms basic modem routers by up to a factor of 20. The three antennas combine with exclusive Asus Ai Radar signal enhancement technology, detecting local conditions and the positions of connected devices to ensure the best possible transmission quality, and a more reliable signal.
The Asus DSL-N55U router also features the Asus EZ UI, which auto-detects ISP settings, and delivers simple on-screen instructions for network configuration. Asus plans to incorporate its AsusWRT firmware into the DSL-N55U via a live upgrade in April, offering access to multiple SSIDs, IPv6, 3G sharing, and the Download Master web-based interface. The device is also DLNA compatible, and features dual USB slots, with one powered slot.
